October 9, 2016:
Gwen's due date was Octber 2. When it didn't look like she was going to arrive on her own before then, Dr. Layton made an appointment for 3:00 AM Oct 9 for Mom to get induced. Dad slept a little before the appointment. Mom stayed up and watched TV, finishing a 4 season binge watch of Homeland.
We both slept so hard.
The contractions weren't horrible, but the epidural brought on a whole new level of comfort that Mom hadn't felt for months.
The process of getting the epidural was kind of a situation because Mom had to get stuck 4 times to try and get it set up in the right spot. Getting that thing shoved in your back isn't fun, but mom focused on the end...that sweet juice that takes the pain away.
October 9th was a Sunday and Mom's fantasy football team had a lot of players in action that day. We kept the TV tuned in to football the whole day.
So. Much. Napping.
The day was surprisingly relaxing and refreshing.
Sometime in the afternoon, the main nurse realized that one of the stirrups on the bed was broken and they would need to get me onto a new bed. Not an easy task when Mom can't feel her lower half. They butted the new bed up to the broken one and Mom army crawled over while nurses shifted her bottom half using a sheet. It went very smoothly, but felt like a beached whale situation.
Finally some progress.
After another small nap an amped up hit of the juice, it was time to get going. Gwen was on her way!
Mom was ready.
Go time.
6:19 PM
Gwen was welcomed by Lincoln, Grandma Marion, Memaw, Popop, Uncle Steve and Jen Luke.
Oh what a night.
